EPIC Aging Support Network

As members of Emeritus Professors in Columbia (EPIC), we represent a wide range of experiences with aging. While many among us enjoy comparatively robust health, others are navigating the predictable, and often challenging, realities of later life. Some EPIC members are adjusting to increased needs in daily living, confronting cognitive decline or other health concerns, or serving as the primary caregiver for a spouse or partner. Others are considering, or have already moved into, retirement communities that offer independent living, assisted living, and memory care as needs change. The EPIC Aging Support Network was created to serve as a practical, member-to-member resource for sharing information, experience, and support around these issues.

EPIC has established an information‑sharing forum where members can exchange experiences and recommendations related to aging and caregiving. Topics may include, for example:

  • Recommendations for reliable home health aide agencies in Manhattan, Westchester, Northern New Jersey, or other regions
  • Experiences hiring private or live‑in caregivers
  • Interest in joining caregiver or peer support groups
  • Referrals for skilled in‑home physical or occupational therapists
  • Guidance on senior living or continuing care communities, including cost ranges and levels of care

Members are welcome to ask questions on behalf of spouses, partners, family members, or close friends. While discussions may touch on sensitive or personal matters, every effort is made to ensure that this forum remains respectful, supportive, and limited to the EPIC community.

How the Network Works

The Aging Support Network operates through a private Google Group, open only to retired Columbia University faculty and administrators who are members of EPIC. The group exists to allow members to share their knowledge and experience as a resource to others, and to provide a place where members can seek information or support when facing aging‑related challenges themselves.

How to Join

If you would like to join the EPIC Aging Support Network please email [email protected] and include your phone number. EPIC staff will follow up individually and provide the Google Group link. If you know of other retired Columbia colleagues who might benefit from or contribute to this network, please share their name, email address, and former Columbia role with [email protected].

The EPIC Aging Support Network is intended as a peer‑to‑peer forum for sharing information and support. The views expressed by participants do not represent the views of Columbia University or any of its affiliates.
