Under the Paving Stones: Protest and Transformations of State Power in Western Europe, 1968-1985

Speaker: Luca Provenzano, Department of History

Luca Provenzano is a doctoral candidate in history. His dissertation, "Under the Paving Stones: Protest and Transformations of State Power in Western Europe, 1968-1985,” describes how, after the seminal protests of 1968, the French and West German governments constructed new styles of protest management involving novel weapons, flexible tactics, and new legal frameworks for ensuring public order. Provenzano presented a chapter from the dissertation about the new public order legislation passed after the events of May and June 1968 in France.
