Graduate Scholar Talk - November 7, 2019

Improving Care Delivery Systems for Substance Use Disorder, HIV, and Hepatitis C

Speaker: Laura Starbird, Columbia University School of Nursing.

Women who use drugs are among the most vulnerable to poor health outcomes related to substance use and its associated infectious diseases, yet few are engaged in high-quality, regular healthcare, largely due to social and system-level barriers. This presentation outlined an early program of research that seeks to take the burden off of the patient to make healthy choices, and instead improve the way we deliver care so that engaging in high-quality healthcare is the default, not the exception, for women with substance use disorder and co-morbid HIV or hepatitis C.
