Artificial Intelligence, a Practical Introduction for Novices

Josh Wolf-Powers

Curious about artificial intelligence but not sure where to start? This session will provide a practical, beginner-friendly introduction to AI, with a focus on how it can be used in everyday life. Josh Wolf-Powers will guide participants through simple examples and applications, making the subject approachable for those with little or no prior experience, as well as for those who’ve been using ChatGPT, Claude, Gemini, or other AI tools but who’ve found them frustrating or difficult to use.

Josh Wolf-Powers, a psychoanalyst in private practice in Manhattan, will lead us in this session.  A graduate of the School of General Studies, Josh has broad experience: before training as a psychoanalyst, he worked in community-based not-for-profits, city government, and private equity investing.  He earned an MBA and an MSW from New York University.  Josh describes himself as “an enthusiastic AI hobbyist,” and will share his experiences in using AI for fun, for information, and for work - and will share his excitements and frustrations in ways that, we hope, will leave you with some ideas for how you might use AI (better?).
