"Motivator and Moralizer: How Agency Shapes Choice and Judgment."
Speaker: Zach Bucknoff, Psychology Department
Scholars across many disciplines continue to debate whether humans have free will. Less contentious is the notion that we experience feelings of directing our own actions, and Bucknoff argues that these feelings of agency have meaningful consequences. His dissertation work sheds light on the role of agency in human motivation and moral judgment.
Graduate Scholar Talks provide Ph.D. candidates preparing to defend their dissertations an opportunity to make a generalist presentation on their research to a cross-disciplinary audience ready to listen carefully and ask good questions. EPIC members help give the Ph.D. students a useful learning experience and at the same time learn about something that may be well beyond their own scholarly interests.
