The Romantics in Our Own Time Speaker: Simon Schama, University Professor of Art History and History "When did culture begin to suggest that man was a part of nature not separate from it? When was the sub-conscious "discovered"? When was non-violent resistance seen as "unvanquishable"? When did art become a weapon of opposition? Answer? Two hundred years ago: the time of the Romantics. Their legacy is still very much with us.
