Each one-hour class is offered for mixed levels, but designed for beginners to intermediate yogis. The 10:00 to 11:00 a.m. class practices breathing techniques and moves through some basic yoga poses, concentrating on alignment, balance, and flexibility. Those with experience move more deeply into the poses. Bring a small towel and a yoga mat if you have one. If not, a mat will be provided. If you have them, you can also bring blocks, a strap and a yoga blanket. From 11:15 a.m. to 12:15 p.m. we practice gentle/chair yoga, which is ideal for those of more limited mobility or flexibility. Classes include breathing, stretching, and yoga poses, done either seated in a chair or standing. No yoga mats are required for this class. First class is free, then sign up for the next three at $10 per class. Instructor: Virginia Papaioannou, registered teacher with Yoga Alliance Registry, Professor of Genetics and Development, Columbia University Medical Center. Room assignments in Faculty House vary. Please check the stanchions in the lobby for room location each week.
