“What’s New in Dementia?: From Diagnosis to Treatment” (webinar)

Dementia research and care are advancing rapidly, bringing new insights into earlier diagnosis, evolving treatments, and strategies to support patients and caregivers. In this timely talk, Dr. James M. Noble will review what is new in the field of dementia, from how we recognize and diagnose cognitive disorders to emerging approaches in treatment, prevention, and care. Drawing on his clinical, research, and community-based work, Dr. Noble will also address modifiable risk factors for cognitive aging and the importance of education, advocacy, and creative engagement for people living with dementia and their care partners.

Dr. James M. Noble is Professor of Neurology at Columbia University Irving Medical Center, with appointments in the Taub Institute for Research on Alzheimer’s Disease and the Aging Brain and the Gertrude H. Sergievsky Center. A Columbia physician since 2002, he completed his neurology residency, aging and dementia fellowship, and a master’s degree in epidemiology at Columbia University, and has been on the Columbia faculty since 2008.

Dr. Noble is a national leader in dementia research, education, and outreach. He serves as Clinical Core Leader of Columbia’s Alzheimer’s Disease Research Center and directs several major research projects focused on cognitive aging and modifiable risk factors, including periodontal disease and traumatic brain injury. He is the author of Navigating Life with Dementia (Oxford University Press/American Academy of Neurology, 2022) and co-editor of Merritt’s Neurology, the field’s standard reference text.

In addition to his academic and clinical work, Dr. Noble co-founded Arts & Minds, a nonprofit that provides museum-based, art-centered programs for people with dementia and their care partners. He has taught neurology to every Columbia medical school graduate since 2010 and has led numerous educational initiatives across the medical campus. His work has been recognized with multiple awards for excellence in epidemiology, education, and community service.
