The November 4 meeting of the Book Club will discuss the very close runner-up option in the poll of preferences done in October. Profesor Peter Strauss has agreed to lead a discussion online of CUTTING FOR STONE by Abraham Verghese. The first novel by a doctor who has risen to the top of Stanford Medical School’s faculty, a semi-autobiographical account of medical education in Ethiopia, India, and the United States, and then hospital experience here.
The EPIC Book Club brings together members who share a love of reading and thoughtful conversation. Meeting monthly via Zoom, the Book Club offers intellectual exchange, discovery, and community, connecting EPIC members wherever they may live. It is shaped by its members. Participants are encouraged to suggest future titles, help determine how selections are made, and volunteer to lead discussions.
We hope for eclectic reading selections, spanning both fiction and nonfiction and drawing from a wide range of subjects, genres, cultures, and historical periods. The goal is to foster good reading and lively discussions, encouraging new perspectives and meaningful dialogue.
If you would like to join the Book Club, suggest future titles, or volunteer to lead a discussion, we look forward to hearing from you. To join, please email us at [email protected]. Also send suggested future titles and indicate your willingness to preside at future sessions to Professor Peter Strauss, [email protected].
