Bonita Enochs
Bonita Eaton Enochs retired from Columbia University Irving Medical Center in 2024 as Senior Editorial Director in the Office of Communications. She had several titles during her 33 years at Columbia, but each role included serving as editor of the Columbia medical school’s magazine, Columbia Medicine (formerly P&S Journal), since 1991.
A native of Nebraska, she moved to New York after working in communications at the University of Missouri System, the University of Nebraska Medical Center, and the University of Nebraska-Lincoln. She received a bachelor of science degree in journalism from the University of Nebraska-Kearney (then Kearney State College), where she was editor of the college newspaper, and a master of arts degree in journalism from the University of Nebraska-Lincoln, where she studied on a Hitchcock Memorial Fellowship. She began her career as a reporter for newspapers in Cozad, Bellevue, and North Platte, all in Nebraska. She wrote a newspaper column, “Bagpipe Dreams,” while studying at Edinburgh University in Scotland on a Rotary International Journalism Award.
